If you are a fellow cyclist like many at the Princeville Vacation Rental Ohana, you may have to have nerves of steel to ride here on the Garden Island, especially up here near Princeville, Hanalei, and Haena; it’s very slippery, mossy, and dangerous for road riders. If you want to rent a road bike, the place to go is Kauai Cycle in Kapaa. They have the best selection and are located in an area that will be pretty safe for road biking in Hawaii if you want to cruise the Kapaa Bike Path or charge down to Poipu and back.
For the serious cyclist that wants to ride with a guide and have someone push hard miles or take them up country roads that aren’t advertised, call Kelli Kelly and ask about “Pedal Kauai Packages.” She will steer you in the right direction. There is a local group of ex Cat 1 cyclists who have put together tours for the last couple of years. They aren’t widely advertised, but we are pals with these guys and are happy to make the introduction.
Interested in mountain biking, or want to cruise Hanalei? Then it’s all about the Bike Doktor in Hanalei! As you enter Hanalei town on the right, you will see the river and the Dolphin Fish Market. Just past that you will see a hut on stilts painted Hanalei green; that’s the Doktor! He’s got tools to fix just about any ailing machine, hook you up with great rentals, gear, nutrition, and plenty of salty tips about where to go biking in Kauai and what’s too soggy due to rain. He’s also usually jamming some pretty hard rock music, which is our favorite part about the experience meeting John Sargent. Tell him the owner of Princeville Vacation Rentals Billy O’ sent you down!
Ask him about these trails if you are looking for singletrack:
Also don’t forget to pick up a North Shore Bike Doktor shirt for your cycling Ohana back on the mainland!
