Waioli Beach, better known as Pine Trees, is the home surf spot to some of the greatest surf legends. You might have heard of the late Andy Irons. This incredible beach was just in walking distance from the Iron’s family home. Pine Trees unite surfers from all over the world and on Kauai, as most come here to see the waves and its riders. You often see young kids with their surfboards or boogie boards, watching and learning from the best surfers, dreaming that one day they will become one of the world’s champion surfers. Their dreams start here at Pine Trees.
To find this laidback, yet competitive beach, take HI-560 W to Weke Rd to Amaama Rd in Hanalei. Make a right onto Mahimahi Rd, then a left onto Weke Rd. Then turn right onto Amaama Rd and you will be greeted by the pine trees. Here’s a google map to guide you in.
Waioli Beach is a great surf spot for experienced surfers and surf watchers. This place is semi-suitable for swimming during the summer, but not snorkeling, as the waves do tend to get rough at high tide. It is one of the best spot to grill some steaks and drink a cold beer while watching the waves or volleyball players. This spot does have an outdoor shower, so bring a towel, extra clothes, and your competitive spirit. You never know if a volleyball or surfboard finds you and calls you to play.
